Our Mission, Vision, & Values

In the fall of 2022, the Play Haven Child Care committee was established to alleviate the critical daycare need in Walnut, Iowa, and the neighboring areas.  Early in 2023, Play Haven Child Care registered as a business with the State of Iowa and was granted 501(c)(3) status as a charitable organization.

Per a recent agreement, Play Haven Child Care will transform Wing 7 of Peace Haven Independent Living into a childcare center for our communities. Peace Haven is located at 900 Antique City Drive in Walnut.  The use of an existing structure and the opportunity to bring together two crucial age groupings in our communities, have the committee very excited about this initiative.

Our work with HGM Associates Inc. is complete. It has provided us with engineering and architectural services for the construction and remodel of Peace Haven Wing 7, with the option to extend its services into the oversight and management of construction.

Intergenerational childcare provides kids with regular interactions with powerful, positive role models. Strong communication abilities, a feeling of community, empathy, and a positive attitude regarding aging can all be developed through these relationships. Children can look beyond their limited worlds by learning alongside older adults.  Our core beliefs aim to give our kids, residents of Peace Haven, and communities high-quality CARE (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) services.

We are looking for donations from the community to help now that all this work has advanced.  Donations will support professional fees, design and engineering costs, inspections, and upgrades.  We have applied for grants, are hosting fundraisers, and actively seeking out private donations.  Without the support of our surrounding communities, this project will not be completed.

We encourage you to reach out to any of our board members for questions, concerns, or additional information regarding this project.

Sincerely,

The Play Haven Child Care Board
